Poena was sister to Daulin and daughter of King Memnos of Tantalus. After her father's death, she followed his advisor, Jarton whose body was being possessed by Ares. In this guise, Ares told Poena that Daulin had poisoned Memnos. This began a war between the siblings and Ares fed the bodies of the dead soldiers to his dog, Graegus. Luckily, Hercules and Iolaus were able to end the conflict and Poena and her brother agreed to rule together.

Mythology

In Greek mythology, Poena (also Poine) is the spirit of punishment[1] and the attendant of punishment to Nemesis,[2] the goddess of divine retribution. Her Roman equivalent may have been Ultio. The Latin word poena, "pain, punishment, penalty", gave rise to English words such as subpoena and pain.[3] The original word is the Ancient Greek poinḗ (ποινή), also meaning “penalty.”
